New Surfaces
Concrete:
New concrete must be allowed to cure for at least 28 days before a coat of Top Paints’ WATER-BASED EPOXY FLOOR PAINT is applied. Laitance (the fine cement powder which comes to the surface after a floor has been laid) should be removed preferably by mechanical means. Acid etching is not recommended.
Steel:
Apply one coat of Top Paints’ Zinc Phosphate QD Primer or Etch Primer and allow to dry.
Old Surfaces
Concrete:
Old concrete should be clean and in good state of repair, i.e. cracks and holes should be filled. The best method of removing old paint is with the use of grit blasting. (Not paint stripper) Oil and grease are best removed by steam cleaning in conjunction with Top Paints’ Detergent Solution
Steel and other metals:
Steel and other metals should be degreased and grit-blasted, followed by a coat of Top Paints’ Etch Primer, followed by an epoxy topcoat. Use recommended WFT at application.
Solvent-based epoxy:
Old epoxy coated surfaces should be roughened before a coat is applied.
Previously painted surfaces in good condition:
Clean the surface and apply coat.
Previously painted surfaces in poor condition:
Surface must be stripped down and treated as new work.
Mixing:
Mix 4 parts Part 2 to 2 parts Part 1, as purchased (4L+2L). Mix Part 1 and Part 2 separately well with a flat paddle. Add Part 1 to Part 2 and again mix well. Allow to stand before application for approximately 5 minutes. Use within 1 hour.
Packaging and Storage
2 x 1 litres Part 1 and 4 litre Part 2. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and severe cold. Keep container sealed and avoid moisture contact.
Caution
During Winter months painting should be restricted to between 09H00 and 15H00, in Summer painting can be done between 08H00 and 16H00.
