UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT

Top Paints’ TREND UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT is an intermediate coating used on steel and wood as an adhesion promoter. TREND UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT can be over coated with a variety of enamels and emulsion paints.

New Surfaces

New mild steel:
Clean surface with Top Paints’ GP Cleaner (refer to mixing ratio on data sheet). Rinse thoroughly with water until a break-free film is achieved. Apply a minimum of two coats Top Paitns’ Water-based Zinc Phosphate Primer and allow recommended drying time. Apply Top Paints’ TREND UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT as an intermediate coat and allow recommended drying time. Apply two final coats of preferred enamel or emulsion paint.

New wood:
Remove dust and loose particles. Apply one coat of Top Paints’ Pink Wood Primer, followed by one coat Top Paints’
TREND UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT as an intermediate coat. Allow recommended drying time. Apply two final coats of preferred enamel or emulsion paint.

New cement plaster:
Ensure the surface is in sound condition before paint is applied. Allow cement plaster to cure and dry for 28 days to avoid
moisture entrapment or any paint failure. Remove plaster spatter and dust. Apply two coats Top Paints’ Trend Plaster Primer and allow to dry.

New fibre-cement, bricks and composition boarding:
Remove dust and loose particles. Apply Top Paints’ Bonding Liquid and allow recommended drying time. Apply Top Paints’ TREND UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT as an intermediate coat, followed by a choice of enamel or emulsion.

Previously Painted Surfaces

Old paint in sound condition:
Clean surface and rinse thoroughly. Ensure that the old coating adheres to the substrate. Apply Top Paints’ TREND UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT if surface is sound. Apply two coats of finishing product.

Previously painted with solvent based product:
Apply Top Paints’ Universal undercoat and allow recommended drying time.

Powdery surface:
Sand down and remove dust. Apply Top Paints’ Bonding Liquid and allow recommended drying time before applying
intermediate and final coats.

Fungal growth:
Remove fungal growth by using Top Paints’ Fungal Wash. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.

Previously painted surface in poor condition:

Strip and treat as new work

Gypsum Plaster
GYPSUM PLASTER IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR EXTERIOR USE.
Top paints’ TREND UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT is not recommended as a primer for gypsum plaster.
Interior: DO NOT SAND GYPSUM PLASTER. Apply Top Paints’ Trend Plaster Primer and allow 12 hours to dry. Apply two coats of finishing products. Refer to Top Paints’ Trend Plaster Primer technical data sheet for more information on this product.

Filling
Use suitable and approved filler.

Packaging:
1L, 5L and 20L (only white)

Storage
Keep away from direct sunlight, heat and severe cold.
Keep container sealed and avoid contact with moisture.
