good exterior paint job is proper preparation.
BITUMEN ALUMINIUM PAINT
A silver bituminous aluminium paint used on galvanized iron sheeting and on steel.
- Steel fencing
- Exterior coating for protection of steel and galvanised iron
- Roof coating on weathered galvanised iron
- Surface Dry: 3 Hours
- Hard Dry: 24 Hours
- Recoating Time: 16 Hours
- Application: Brush or roller Spray may be best for larger areas as this may give a more uniform appearance
- Thinning: Not recommended
- Spreading Rate: 10 – 12m²/litre, depending on surface porosity
- Cleaning: Top Paints’ Mineral Turpentine
- Coats:1 or 2
- Stir thoroughly with a flat paddle before use
- Do not apply excessively thick coats which may retard thorough drying
Note
- Do not expose BITUMEN ALUMINIUM to acid, alkali or solvents
- Not a heat resistant aluminium finish
- When painting temperatures should be between 5 and 40°C, humidity less than 85% and preferably between 10:00 and 16:00
- May appear golden-black when opening tin and stirring, will dry to aluminium finish.
Surface must be clean, sound and dry before painting.
New Surfaces
Rusted Steel:
Remove rust by sanding, wire brushing, etc. apply BITUMEN ALUMINIUM. Apply 2 coats BITUMEN ALUMINIUM, allow to dry between coats.
Galvanized Iron: by using Top Paints’ degreaser or GP Cleaner
Remove grease, oil and temporary protective coating by using Top Paints’ degreaser or GP Cleaner. Rinse with clean water until a water break-free film is achieved. Remove any rust (white and/ or red) by sanding, wire brushing, etc. until the bright metal surface is visible. Prime with Top Paints’ Water-based Zinc Phosphate Primer before applying 2 coats of BITUMEN ALUMINIUM. Allow for sufficient drying times between coats.
Mild Steel:
Remove grease, oil and temporary protective coating. Rinse with clean water until a water break-free film is achieved. Remove any mill scale and rust by mechanical cleaning or hand, these methods must remove all loosely adherent rust and mill scale, if it does not, abrasive blasting can be done. Prime with Top Paints’ Water-based Zinc Phosphate Primer before applying 2 coats of BITUMEN ALUMINIUM. Allow for sufficient drying times between coats.
Redecorating:
Degrease surface with Top Paints’ Degreaser, rinse with clean water until a water break-free film is achieved. Remove any rust (white and/ or red) by sanding, wire brushing, etc. until the bright metal surface is visible.
Bitumen Aluminium:
Clean and apply BITUMEN ALUMINIUM.
Previously painted surfaces in good condition:
Remove paint and treat as new work.

Storage
Store away from direct sunlight, heat and severe cold. Keep container sealed and avoid moisture contact.
Caution
Exterior surfaces – Do not paint if rain is imminent.
